This month is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and unfortunately far too many of us have been impacted by this disease one way or another. This year alone nearly 247,000 new cases of breast cancer will be detected, and about 40,000 women will die from this dreadful disease. These numbers are just too high to ignore. Designating October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month raises awareness of the risks of breast cancer, the value of early detection and screenings/mammograms, and treatment options.
So what can you do to support this cause as an individual? Over the years a pink ribbon has come to symbolize breast cancer awareness, as well as wearing pink. LOA will go ALL PINK on Friday, October 14 to show our support. But don’t just wear pink; tell people why you’re wearing it. This is what raises awareness. Wear a pink ribbon anywhere during the month of October, and ask your friends and family to do the same. If you like to shop, go out and buy something with the pink ribbon logo on it. Companies with the logo displayed on it donate a percentage to breast cancer research.
What’s the most important way to support breast cancer research: donate money so that one day we may find a cure for this global killer.
