Welcome February. I can't believe we are stuck with this wintry weather pattern! I know Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow so we are in for 6 more weeks of Winter. I have a few snowdrops showing up in my garden so I know that Spring is just around the corner.
From Lutheran Schools Week in January each class chose a bible verse along with a classroom color and created a poster. These posters will be on display in the Sanctuary for this week; please check them out.
This week the children will be getting ready for Valentine's Day parties on Friday; please check with your child's teacher for times and other details.
Valentines Day will be on Friday. It is a day to express your love to your loved ones. But Valentines Day isn't all about roses, candy, and expensive dinners. Did you know that it has a historical background too. It wasn't created by greeting card companies just to sell cards and candies. It's actually a church sanctioned holiday (it is an official feast in the Lutheran Church), as Pope Gelasius deemed February 14 St. Valentine's Day near 498 A.D.
St. Valentine's Day began as a liturgical celebration of one or more early Christian saints named Valentinus. The most popular martyrology associated with Saint Valentine was that he was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians, who were persecuted under the Roman Empire; during his imprisonment, he is said to have healed the daughter of his jailer Asterius. Legend states that before his execution he wrote "from your Valentine" as a farewell to her.
During Chapel Time this week the children will learn about God's love. The Chapel Verse for this week is from John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life." Our 2 and 3 year-olds will hear the story "God Gave Us Love" by Lisa T. Bergren and Laura J. Bryant and the 4 year-olds and Kindergartners will have the story "Emma & Mommy Talk to God"by Marianne Williamson and Julia Noonan.
Details for LOA Summer Camp will be coming soon, so stay tuned... The theme this year is "All Aboard for a "Sonsational" Summer of Discovery".
Lessons for Piano Keys 4 Kids started late January and has had a lot of interest. Because of the high interest Ms Mallory will be dividing the classes into smaller groups. "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away."
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
