I would like to thank Eric Energy and his Pre-school Science Spectacular. The children were amazed with everything he was able to do with dry ice and more. He will be back in the summer.
Our Winter Windows competition was judged by our Schoolagers on Friday. The Schoolagers were very impressed with everyone's windows and they had a tough time judging. Our downstairs winner was the Monkeys window and upstairs it was the Dolphins window. Thank you to everybody for participating.
This is our "Space and Planets" week. Our children will be learning all about our Solar System. Check with your child through the week to see if they can remember all the names of the planets. The Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum and Planetarium near Dulles is a great place to take your child to follow up with what they learn at school.
Our Christian theme is "God made the planets too!" and we will feature the book "God Made Outer Space" by Heno Head. The book highlights the fact that God has given us the glory of the creation of space and all that is in it. It talks about the different sizes and colors of stars, including the Sun, as well as their varying temperatures. It discusses galaxies, constellations, comets, moons, asteroids, and meteors. It explains what a planet is and the Solar System. It encourages children to go to the bible to find out more about God's creation.
Parent Conferences are starting this week. Make sure that you have signed up to meet with your child's teacher to discuss your child's progress. Teachers will give you helpful information as you make decisions about your child's placement for next year.
Lutheran Schools Week will be January 27th - 31st. The theme is "Witness Always". The focus is raising up the next generation of faithful Christian disciples. From Terry Schmidt, Director of School Ministry for the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod: "May God grant our educators the boldness to witness always. And, may the power of the Holy Spirit, through the Gospel, transform lives as children become faithful disciples." You can find our schedule on the Parent Pages tab on our website, www.leesburgopenarms.org, right below the weekly menu. Teacher request: we need bubble wrap for Monday January 27th. Please see your child's teacher if you can help with this.
Details for LOA Summer Camp will be coming soon, so stay tuned... The theme this year is "All Aboard for a "Sonsational" Summer of Discovery".
Help us reach our goal! The soup can drive for the area's needy families via Porch Pals is continuing. We have an area in the Front Lobby where you can drop your soup cans off. Check the progress we are making; we are hoping to collect over 250 cans by the end of January. Thank you for your support.

Thank you once again to everyone for voting LOA as the #1 Childcare in Loudoun County. We are very proud of this; it will be recognized in the Leesburg Today by the end of the month. Thank you for your continued support.
