I hope you all had a really great 3-day weekend and enjoyed the beautiful weather we had! I certainly did with my family.
As part of Nature Week last week a number of classes took nature walks to Isaac Walton Park. They saw some ducks and geese, and they enjoyed being outside listening to nature. We are very blessed to have such a place so close to our school!
Our theme for this week is "Under the Sea". Check all the classroom activities that will be going on this week. We will be featuring activities with fish, seashells, sand and water.
Our Christian theme is Jonah and the Whale from the Book of Jonah. Our Bible verse is "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding." Proverbs 3:5.
Our "Painted Lady" caterpillars have grown and this week many them are in their chrysalis stage and we expect some of them to transform into butterflies. It is always exciting to see these changes as we anxiously await the metamorphosis.
Last week we notified all bid winners from our Silent Auction via a separate e-mail to all Parents and Staff. However, there are still a number of Silent Auction items that have not yet been claimed. We will contact those parents/bid winners this week. All payments must be made either in cash or by check.
One last time for this month we will be helping Porch Pals. Their request is for binders of 1/2", 1" or 2" size. Thank you again for your cooperation.
This Wednesday, May 28th, we will have "SwimKids Swim For Life!" pay LOA a visit. They are a swim school in Leesburg and they will come in to talk to all children ages 2 and above about swim safety. They will be in at 10:00 AM.
This coming Saturday, May 31st, LOA will be participating in the Relay for Life in support of the American Cancer Society. If you would like to participate in the Relay for Life, either as simply a donor or as a participant, here is a link to our Team LOA page on the Relay for Life website: Link to TEAM LOA page for Relay For Life. We are still looking for more people to help us walk. If you are interested to walk for any amount of time please stop by my office.

- We have three new summer staff that have joined LOA. Please welcome Ms Rachel S., Ms Rachel R. and Ms Rebekah. They will be assistants in various classrooms over the summer.
An important reminder regarding the LOA "sick child" policy: If your child develops a fever in excess of 100.8 degrees at LOA, we immediately notify the parents that he/she must be picked up and taken home for appropriate care. That child may not come back to school until 24 hours have elapsed after the child's temperature has returned to normal. This means the child will not be expected back to LOA the next day unless we have a Doctor's note.
"For more than 65 years, the American Cancer Society has been finding answers that save lives - from changes in lifestyle to new approaches in therapies to improving cancer patients' quality of life. No single nongovernmental, not-for-profit organization in the US has invested more to find the causes and cures of cancer."
